Scannability Troubleshooting: Diagnosing Quiet Zones, Contrast, and Geometry Failures
When a barcode stops scanning, the failure usually falls into one of four buckets: bad data, damaged geometry, weak contrast, or hardware mismatch. The fastest troubleshooting path is to isolate which bucket you are dealing with before changing everything at once.
| Symptom | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Phone scans, laser does not | Contrast or wavelength mismatch |
| Intermittent reads on conveyor | Quiet zone or truncation issues |
| Only some batches fail | Press, darkness, or substrate drift |
